M.P’s are to receive a pay rise, the figure is around 10%, am I the only person to have a problem with this. After all we are in a recession, an M.P’s salary is in the region of £66,ooo, so what’s going on.
We are after all supposed to be living in a democracy, as I understand this it means that the politicians are employed by us. Their job is to run the country while we get on with our lives.
Again am I the only one mystified by all this, when was the last time a group of employees received a massive pay rise without the Conservative’s complaining. For that matter when was the last time you heard of workers getting a pay rise when the company was making a loss.
I would be far happier with the pay rise if M.P’s went through a year long induction at the start of their term of office.
I would suggest that any new M.P would have to live for the first four months on the benefits allowed to an unemployed school leaver. Just to see if he could cope on JSA and Housing Benefit. As an incentive they would be able to look forward to living the next four months on benefits allowed to those over thirty-five.
This would mean they could claim Housing Benefit for more than a bed-sit. After this eight month period they would then have the privilege of living on minimum wage.
I know this seems unfair, expecting a career politician to live like this for a whole year when many of their employers have to look forward to this for the foreseeable future.
But maybe it would give those in the Government an insight into what many of those who voted for them have to live with on a day to day basis.
It may also teach one or two of them a useful lesson
