Circus Street Development

Opposition is mounting over the proposals for the redevelopment of the old market area in Circus Street. This is currently something of a backwater in Brighton. Opponents of the scheme which will include student accommodation, and shops, say the development will devastate the peace of Circus Street as well as cutting out light and views.

Circus Street already has a (closed)nightclub and 24 hour café restaurant.

The development proposals tie in with those for those around the American Express building. If they are successful, the town will have a completely new planning complex stretching from Kemptown to Morley Street.  The Circus Street development is part of this scheme.

Student housing would certainly ease the problem of places to rent in Brighton

Arrangements can be made for noisy building e.g. demolition works to be staggered into more sociable times.

The Hove Town Planning Office is receiving (written)comments about their proposals.
