First Base is part of Brighton Housing Trust It is a centre which offers a range of services to support people who are sleeping rough or insecurely housed in  the city.

It helps them realise their aspirations through work, learning and leisure to find a place they can call home. Their services include a Healthy Life Styles project and CV Service.

Spring is coming to First Base

First Base, the Homeless Drop in Centre is having a party called Base Fest.

On 27 March the start of Spring. A group are taking over the Friends Meeting House and holding a show case of their talent. This exciting event will be in partnership with the Brunswick Festival the annual, and enjoyable, Fete.

As the big day in March approaches the various components of the show at First Base are unrolled. One week the banner and bunting are produced as background decorations for The Meeting House. Each flag is an original, drawn and painted by a member of the team.  Exhibition planning is being taught also,  another time part of the team have gone to collect a piano.  This coincides with a music therapy session being held the same day-beating out those bongo rhythms on a drum Musical percussion will also be at the event on March 27th. Other attractions there will include art and creative writing craft.  World Food (we have had a delicious Gambian meal cooked by one of the team) and photography.

The showcase of talents will be open from 12 Noon until 5pm. Base Fest will be held at The Friends Meeting House in Ship Street, Brighton BN1 1AF

we are two people living in Brighton who have both been through the 'hostel' system. I (Chris) have been street homeless, I am currently a recovering alcoholic living in a privately rented flat.
